Programs & Services
The Cancer Assistance Fund of North Texas is a 501 (c)(3) organization that provides various programs and services for cancer patients who live in the Tarrant, Johnson, Wise and Parker Counties.
Counseling
Our counseling services are offered to cancer patients in a group setting at the Center for Cancer Disorders in Ft. Worth.
Financial Assistance
Each year we provide financial assistance to help
with a portion of COBRA payments. We have a limited amount
of funds to assist cancer patients in Tarrant, Johnson,
Wise and Parker counties who are in serious financial need
with the cost of their cancer treatment programs. For
those patients in financial need with no health insurance
we sometimes are able to make direct payments to those who
provide the oncology care.
Cancer Screening
Screening is looking for
cancer before you have any
symptoms. Screening can help find cancer at an early
stage.
When
abnormal tissue or cancer is found early, it may be easier to treat. By the time symptoms appear, cancer may have begun to spread. Physicians help recommend who should be screened for cancer, which screening tests should be used, and how often the tests should be done.
It is important to remember that your doctor does not necessarily think you have cancer if he or she suggests a screening test. Screening tests are given when you have no cancer symptoms. Screening tests may be repeated on a regular basis. If a screening test result is abnormal, you may need to have more tests done to find out if you have cancer.
Cancer Assistance Fund of North Texas provides screening for breast, colon, pancreatic and prostate cancer in Tarrant County and surrounding areas. Cancer screenings are offered twice annually at Huguley Memorial Medical Center and other locations.
Physician Partners Program
Each year we sponsor the treatment of approximately twelve breast cancer patients who are either uninsured or underinsured. Physicians and their nursing staff donate their time for this treatment program.
Wellness Program
The side effects and after effects of chemotherapy, radiation or even surgery can challenge a cancer patient's sense of control. We provide an alternative treatment program that offers massage, acupuncture, nutritional education and meditation training for cancer patients under physicians care who cannot afford the services.
Our wellness program can help cancer patients by improving the patient’s physical functioning, muscle strength, fatigue, anxiety, depression, pain management, and overall quality of life.
The Cancer Assistance Fund of North Texas also sponsors the only oncology nursing internship program for senior nursing students from TCU and other area colleges and universities in the area. The program allows hands-on training in oncology nursing while completing their degree. For more information please contact Truitt Clinard at 817.333.0118.
